So with Lana going to nursery I foolishly thought I’d have lots of extra time to blog – but I seem to have forgotten that 10-month-olds don’t really play on their own, but prefer to follow you around the house demanding to get picked up every two seconds…So here I am, trying to publish something about Matthew’s family’s visit two weeks later!
Warm summer days on an island surrounded by friends and their kids – what more could you ask for?! Matthew even suggested we buy ourselves an island to build a house on, Lana was so busy she didn’t have time to eat and Maya loves it when stuff is happening around her – so it’s fair to say we all enjoyed our day in the Finnish archipelago!
Yesterday we decided to visit the little coastal town Lovisa with my parents. It’s one of those charming, slow-paced and very instagrammable little Finnish towns with old wooden houses in the prettiest colours. There are only around 15 000 inhabitants, so it’s even smaller than my home town Porvoo with just over 50 000 people.
We’ve been in Finland for a week now, and with the girls’ sleep routines being disrupted due to the two hour time difference we’ve been quite tired and haven’t had much time to ourselves. We’ve also needed some time to recover from all the stress of packing and moving and haven’t really had the energy to socialise yet – but we’ve done stuff with the kids, such as visited the pretty Rhododendron Park in Helsinki you can see in the photos.
I never thought I’d be writing this blog post so soon…But I am…So, life has been pretty hectic lately and there are some very BIG CHANGES looming. I’m just going to blurt it out: we are moving to Finland!!! Yup. To my homeland. Probably very soon. Like in May! It’s crazy times and even though we’ve been talking about moving for years the decision to move now came very quickly.
Ever since I moved to the UK (almost 6,5 years ago!) I have become increasingly obsessed with Nordic brands and I love the thought of being a bit of an ambassador for the brands I love and new brands I discover here on the blog. The simple and elegant lines of Nordic design really tickle my fancy and it just makes me feel less homesick being surrounded by it. Going to Ikea is another way of battling homesickness – but it’s getting increasingly difficult to get Matthew to join me hmpf.
Once again Christmas came and went so, so quickly. This Christmas was the first in 30 something years where my dad didn’t have to cook – instead we celebrated in my twin brother’s new house that he built with his own bare hands. This Christmas was also the first in many, many years where Santa decided to come visit – and seeing the excitement (or fear) of the little ones brought back memories from when I was a kid myself.
Just want to quickly wish everybody a MERRY CHRISTMAS 2017!! I hope you get to celebrate it with your loved ones and eat good food! This is Maya’s first Christmas and I was adamant we take some family Christmas photos – but little Lana the Dictator wasn’t cooperating and Maya was asleep, so it is what it is. At least we’re all in the photo haha!
