I’ve always thought it would be nice to try a homemade face mask but never really gotten around to it until I saw this really simple recipe in a magazine the other week. I think it was the anti-ageing effect of the grapefruit in the recipe that caught my attention…:)
1. The main ingredient is the grapefruit – apparently citric acid in grapefruits helps to exfoliate dead skin and boost collagen, and the vitamin C in the fruit brightens and tones your complexion. Wouldn’t say no to that!
2. The second ingredient is natural yoghurt – I used greek yoghurt as it’s thicker and therefore stays on the face better (just my logic though). The yoghurt cools the skin and is naturally anti-inflammatory – it was a really nice feeling especially after having been in the sun earlier that day. (Yes, it’s actually been sunny and warm here this week!)
3. The third ingredient, which you can also leave out, is rice flour. Well, according to the recipe it was cornmeal, but as I didn’t have it I thought rice flour would do the trick – and it did. (It had a nice fine peeling effect.) Not sure if you could just use normal flour too, would have to try.
Here we have all three ingredients: I used the juice of 1/2 a grapefruit, 1/2 a cup of yoghurt and slightly less of the rice flour. This resulted in quite a lot of the stuff, so half of that is more than enough.
And this is what the concoction looked like. If it’s too runny you can just add a bit more off the rice flour.
It was quite a nice feeling to wear food on my face 🙂 Especially the yoghurt felt really cooling and nice on the skin. I did think my skin was a lot softer and a bit more even afterwards, so might be worth a try if you’re into your food!
There are so many recipes out there to try, or why not create your own face mask? I mean, if it’s just natural, safe ingredients you should be ok… Let me know if you know of a good recipe!
