Just over a month ago, one day before the Finnish Independence Day, the much anticipated new central library opened in Helsinki. Myself, along with the rest of the city it seemed, had been waiting to visit the beautiful three-storey ship-like building made of wood, glass and steel – and we weren’t disappointed. What a place! Makes me proud to be a Finn.
A while back I wrote a blog about 8 cool and ethical Finnish children’s’ clothing brands – and since this post is one of my most read ones and now number one in Google searches I thought I’d write another one where I include some of the less known brands I like as well! And this way spread the word about Finnish craftsmanship and maybe even inspire someone to invest in quality over quantity 🙂
The sun is back after a long, grey and rainy period – and the beautiful winter light just makes me want to take my camera with me everywhere. It’s gotten pretty cold too, which means I’m struggling to figure out what the girls should be wearing in order not to be cold or sweaty. And struggling to keep those gloves on Maya. It’s not easy stuff! But I much prefer it this way instead of rain and clouds!
I just finished knitting a hat for my mum and it only took a few days. Since the pattern was so easy and it’s something even a beginner could knit, I thought I should share it here. Because I’m sure many of you would like to try knitting something right?! A perfect skill to pick up just before Christmas as well.
Not too long ago I published a post about what I eat in a day on a regular weekday – and since it was pretty healthy I felt like it didn’t properly reflect my diet and that I needed to do a post about what I eat on a “cheat day” too. I try to eat healthy during the week and allow myself to indulge on the weekend. And trust me, I do indulge!
Maya is ill and has therefore enjoyed a longer nap today, and since I have a cold as well and trying to take it easy I’ve given myself permission to just watch TV during her sleep. I love food and health-related TV shows, so first I watched an episode of the Finnish “You Are What You Eat” and then an episode of “Fitness Diaries” – a show where five Finnish fitness-women vlog about their lives. And after I watched these shows I felt that I have to write about something that has been on my mind for a while.
