I feel like I’ve done hundreds of these ‘holiday in Finland’ blog posts (probably because I have) but here we go again! This time we spent only two weeks in my motherland, and I have to say that it felt a bit too short – three weeks seems to be the optimal time. It was another good holiday, very relaxing this time with less plans and the cold weather keeping us inside more.
I wasn’t planning on writing a blog post about my recent visit to my home town’s newcomer on the restaurant scene, Meat District, (hence the lovely and dark mobile photos) but then changed my mind after having seen my main dish…You can see the restaurant on the left hand side in the photo above – a very nice location in the middle of picturesque Porvoo Old Town. The restaurant takes pride in serving ecological and locally sourced meat where possible but welcomes vegetarians too.
As it’s been six months since our last visit to Finland I felt like I really needed a good dose of family, friends, Finnish nature, Finnish food and all things Finnish! The countryside I used to get bored with as a teenager is now something I long for – and breathing in all those familiar smells of late summer/early autumn is so invigorating!
I’ve posted some wintry photos of my home town in the past but it’s in summer that the town really comes alive and shows off its beauty. During my 7-week stay this summer I’ve taken a bunch of photos of Old Borgå that I thought I’d share here with you as well!
