A Helsinki weekend was a must on our Finland holiday – and since my parents live only an hour away and have a flat there it’s a pretty easy thing to make happen! We had amazing weather too and got to enjoy Helsinki at its best. It’s such a lovely city (way better than Stockholm ;)) that you should visit if you can! 2017 marks Finland’s 100th independence anniversary, so there’s a lot going on as well. Can you tell I used to work for the Tourist Office in Helsinki haha?!
This blog post has been sitting in my draft box ever since our last visit to Finland in September, so maybe it’s time to finally release it! On a glorious and warm Friday in September we took the 15-minute ferry over to Sveaborg Sea Fortress and enjoyed lunch, coffee and the beautiful island for a few hours. If you ever visit Helsinki you need to check out this place too!
We spent last weekend in Helsinki and damn it felt good to be back! I was reminded by how beautiful and cool this city is once again – and something I’ve never really thought too much about is just how gorgeous all the pastel coloured buildings are. Such a stark contrast to Edinburgh’s grey houses – both cities provide tons of amazing Instagram content though!
I’ve really missed my beautiful Helsinki, so shortly after arriving to Finland my parents and brother with family got into our cars and drove the one hour drive to Helsinki city. We couldn’t have picked a colder day though, so instead of walking along the shore we sought shelter (and lunch) in Karuselli cafe and restaurant right after arriving.
Another happening week in Moominland is over. Matthew arrived on Tuesday, so Lana’s been reunited with her dad after two weeks apart. We’ve met some relatives, had some great meals out, been to Ikea (before Matthew arrived – lucky him) visited a housing fair, done a bit of shopping, played tennis and gone for several runs, mingled with the tourists in my own town and had an amazing brunch with friends I haven’t seen for ages!
