TBT: Quick Visit To Helsinki

I’ve really missed my beautiful Helsinki, so shortly after arriving to Finland my parents and brother with family got into our cars and drove the one hour drive to Helsinki city. We couldn’t have picked a colder day though, so instead of walking along the shore we sought shelter (and lunch) in Karuselli cafe and restaurant right after arriving.

I did quickly take a few photos of the brand new entertainment area by the sea with restaurants, volleyball pitch, a terrace, sauna etc. for 2500 people. If you look closely you can even see some palm trees in the back!

It’s a bit of a walk from the city centre, but on a sunny day I would definitely make the walk myself. However, the day we were there both the sun and the people were nowhere to be seen.

After lunch the weather felt a bit warmer so we went for a little walk along the shoreline.

This is where I used to go running when living in Helsinki – best running route ever!

Those clouds looked a bit imposing to say the least…

The water looks almost turquoise doesn’t it?

Mattolaituri cafe restaurant in Helsinki

Another newish place called Mattolaituri by the sea that I still haven’t been to – and it was a bit too cold for it this time too!

This is a place open for the public where people can come and wash their rugs.

bungy in helsinki

Before it started raining and we had to head back to the cars we watched this wee person do a bungy jump – looks like so much fun!

I’m a Swedish-speaking Finn who left Finland for the lovely and thrilling London town in 2011, but after meeting an equally lovely and thrilling Scotsman I somehow now find myself in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. In February 2015 our gorgeous little girl arrived and made us a happy family of three. Follow my blog and get to know us!
