Three weeks ago I finally decided it was time to stop breastfeeding. I never thought I would breastfeed for so long, but it became clear to me when Lana was 12 months that it was an unrealistic plan to stop then. Instead I kept going for another 9 months – and all I can say is well done me!!
The main reason I wanted to stop at 21 months (because I could’ve easily continued!) was that I felt like Lana was getting more and more obsessed with feeding the less milk I gave her. And having a toddler pulling at your shirt 20 times per day is very annoying I can tell you! And this was the case even when I was only feeding her once or twice a day. I also knew she didn’t really need the milk and that it was just a comfort thing. She’s been absolutely fine when she’s spent the night with Matthew’s parents.
Our trip to Copenhagen was the perfect time to stop as I was going to be away from Lana for three nights. And in hindsight I think the transition has been a lot easier because of that. I’ve been surprised by how well Lana has handled everything – another sign she was ready for it!
The day we came back when I was to put her down at night I expected a massive tantrum when denying her a feed, but she just asked for milk once and then gave up. She did cry a little afterwards, but that was expected given she’d been away from us for four days. And it’s been like that ever since that. She still asks once in the evening and then gives up straight away. I’m so grateful it went so well!
I’m also so grateful I was able to breastfeed for so long. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, and so has Lana – and we’ve bonded so much because of it. I feel so happy and proud knowing I’ve given my daughter the best start in life and I really feel for mothers who haven’t been able to do so.
I went through my phone and found so many funny photos of my wee frog that I want to share with you as well. She’s getting so big! (Btw she usually never takes a dummy, so don’t be fooled by the first photo!)
Some people just nap in style haha!
Just finished watching Saara sing ‘My heart will go on’ on X-Factor – her performance gave me goosebumps once again. I’m no expert but I do think she has the best voice of them all! Too bad it’s not The Voice haha! Who do you want to win??
